The G50+™ comes rigged with two #7982 Mustad 10/0 hooks and a Sevenstrand® 600# steel leader attached to a stainless steel stamping. The stamping fits in the underlip slot and is allowed to move side to side. This movement makes the lure self-centering and provides true running at speeds up to 10 mph. For most species such as grouper, wahoo, cobia, kingfish and sailfish this set up is the most popular and easiest to use. With this setup, a lure trolled at 4 mph on IGFA rated 60 lb. test line with 200 feet of line out, will reach 60 feet. On IGFA rated 80 lb. test line, the lure will reach 50 feet. Remember, slow speeds and smaller or longer line increases lure depth while fast speeds and larger or shorter line decreases depths.

IMA Japan Komomo SF-130 Slim

The secret to its surprising long distance casts is the arrow-like shape, and the “raceway” engineered inside the komomo's body. Two dense tungsten ball weights roll down the raceway into the very tail tip of the komomo upon casting. Unlike other lures that have fixed weight systems, the Komomo can be much lighter yet still cast much farther because all the dense tungsten weight is in the tail on the cast.

When it first splashes down, the weighted tail causes the komomo to sit straight up and down in the water. As the retrieve is started, the pull of the fishing line causes the tungsten weights to roll back into the belly where there is a baffle that holds the weights precisely at the center of balance for the duration of the retrieve. With the weights automatically repositioned and secured by the baffle mechanism, the komomo now sits perfectly horizontal in the water. Under normal conditions, the komomo maintains a consistent swimming depth about one foot or so below the surface. Ideal action can be gotten on a slow retrieve and slow-moving water. As you slowly retrieve it, the komomo innately wants to stop and pause a lot if you let it, which is very natural and how a slender baitfish would act. The lifelike slow-rolling movement is a perfect visual attractant at such special moments as daybreaks and sunsets when ocean gamefish cruise the sea surface looking for an easy meal.

The komomo can also be retrieved fast by the angler, or it can be cast into fast-moving water, and the komomo will still work as intended even in a fast current or on a fast retrieve. You will again notice the remarkable similarity of the action to long slender baitfish that must swim much harder, almost gyrating from side to side in a wide S-shaped arc in fast water. The komomo will closely mimic its natural baitfish counterparts as the komomo also arcs widely from side to side when moved quickly.

To work it shallower or to keep the Vibe 80 high in the water column, simply start reeling immediately as soon as the Vibe 80 hits the water. Then by manipulating the rod tip angle and retrieval speed, the Vibe 80 can be kept anywhere from a few to about eight feet deep on a steady retrieve. Of course, counting it down on a tight line slide lets the Vibe 80 dive even deeper.

The Vibe 80 has a narrow almost knife-like head giving way to a widened tail section. It's no coincidence that the lure's swimming movement also has a narrower shudder in the head and a wider swagger at the tail. Overall, it has a furious vibration and frantic wriggling action like a startled critter hightailing it out of the area. It has a more intense action than you usually see in a lure. Yet at the same time, it is natural-looking.

The intense vibrating action is due to water pressure pushing the body rapidly back and forth several times per second. The Vibe 80 beats feverishly, making your rod tip shudder. The entire lure, including the super sharp Owner St-46 trebles and forged split rings wobble and vibrate vigorously.

Constantly keeping it swimming is a great way to cover a lot of water quickly. Don't be afraid to go a little faster than normal with the Vibe 80 as often speed is a great strike trigger. Many other saltwater lures cannot be sped up or they'll flip out and roll over on their backs.
